Education for the best puppy in the park

Companion Dog Training

A very well organised course taught not only the dogs but probably more importantly the owners.  ...Also the written material was excellent and a very useful reference aid.  On the whole it made for a very enjoyable evening for both the dogs and their owners.” Customer feedback.

This is our longest running course. We were one of the first in the country to use kind methods (for example by completely banning choke-collars) and to focus entirely on the needs of the pet owner.  This class is recommended for owners who want to improve control in a group setting which is quiet, safe and supportive.

The first session is an introduction for owners and takes place without the dog.  This is because dogs get bored during human-to-human instruction!

Week 1               Introductions, demos & questions – long session

Week 2 & 3       Control and Recall

Week 4 & 5       Control and Lead Walking

Recall: We teach dogs to come to you in the park and have their lead attached.  We're not fussed if they sit straight in front of you or not.

Lead: We aren't fussed if they sit straight at heel or not.  We do want them to walk without pulling and pay attention to you.

General control: Sit, stand, down positions.  "Leave it!"  Not jumping up on people/other dogs.  Pay attention and listen to you.

It is very important that adult dogs who are afraid or who show aggression to other dogs or people do not attend class.  Classes can make problems like this worse.  Helping scared/challenging dogs away from class also means you can be confident you and your dog will be safe in our classes.  If your dog is not confident and friendly with people and other dogs, please contact us and we'll refer you to someone who can help.
